2017 Quartet SeminarCadenza Academy of San Antonio is pleased to announce its 3rd annual String Quartet Seminar to be held SUMMER 2017. The CASA String Quartet Seminar is a Week-Long, comprehensive workshop designed for serious minded string students to further develop their chamber music skills in a focused, immersive environment. San Antonio's premier String Quartet, Camerata San Antonio, will be on faculty this year. |
Curriculum |
The curriculum includes daily rehearsals with professional coaching by Camerata San Antonio, score study, and class lectures on the most challenging, professional-level quartets of W.A. Mozart and Joseph Haydn, Beethoven, and other selected composers.
Solo masterclasses for Violin, Viola, and Cello, will allow students to explore stringed instrument technique with high-level professional teachers. Score study will focus on how to read and analyze the score for a deeper understanding of the music, and class lectures will allow for a deeper understanding of the composers. All quartets will perform in a concert on the final day of the seminar. |
Faculty Coaching and Performance |
Our faculty are exceptional musicians and sought after performers and teachers. The quartet setting offers students the unique opportunity to work very closely with our professional faculty. Unlike summer orchestra camps, quartet coachings will have a 4:1 student to teacher ratio. Our faculty will not only coach the students, but will also perform a chamber music concert for the students. The faculty concert serves to entertain and inspire, but also serves to reinforce and provide a live demonstration of the concepts and techniques learned throughout the seminar.

Students will be sent individual parts and full scores of their material. Students are required learn their parts and be prepared to play it at performance tempo before arriving at the seminar. The success of each quartet is dependent on the preparedness of each individual member. Registration is limited to 6 groups of string quartets, or 24 students total, ages 11-18 (with exceptions). You may also apply as a pre-formed String Quartet with musical friends of your choosing. If applying as a string quartet, please submit 4 individual applications and indicate that you have a pre-formed group, |
